northerly

Hot, dry, northerly
Eroding deep crevasses
In old men's faces.

The north wind doth blow and we shall have a searing, dry heat that dessicates the skin and causes one to narrow eyes and mouth to the narrowest possible slits in defense... I wrote this after visiting my father in the mid-north agricultural area of the state. Mid summer. Temperatures over 40C in the shade may be worth remarking, but for me it's the wind that truly characterises the experience.

I'm enjoying the challenge, still, of brief forms like haiku, but I find myself lamenting the waste of a whole bunch of perfectly good words that suffer the misfortune of not quite fitting. Adding notes helps!
