a parable
In the beginning there was the flat earth under our feet. Around the edges were oceans - and the source of their water was the rivers running through the land.
Then melting snows and snow-fall and rain were discovered as the source of water for rivers; and clouds were discovered as the source of water for rain and snow; and then oceans were discovered as the source of water for clouds.
Now we know that the source of water in our environment is everywhere at once and nowhere in particular. A forest is a source of water, just as the ocean is. Everything is at the same time the source and the destination.
If a person declares the tap at the kitchen sink, or the village well, to be the source of water, the local utility of that understanding needn't be denied. But to hold that as the sum total of understanding about the source of water is an impoverished position to maintain, and dangerous if ever the tap or well runs dry.
